The Ministry of Abundance
A shift in political and economic systems results in new values and meanings as to what the city represents. How can we adapt and live sustainably in a world built on traditions that are no longer relevant?
The Ministry of Abundance is born out of the primary goal of self sufficiency. It is a new typology, an artifact that feeds and brings life to the derelict commercial infrastructure. It is a physical manifestation of the post-capitalist effort to re-imagine the city as a new technology bringing power, food, clothing and heat to her citizens. It is a rejection of the destructive and obsolete traditions discussed. A Technocrat government requires Architecture to act as an active agent in the production of life.
Sited on the North-West corner of the Bank of England, the artifact houses industrial machinery, tools and facilities to enable the Bank to become a point of input, a provider.
The MoA is an anti-building, existing equally as a platform, a machine, a programme, a tool and a symbol.
